"Charm Strikes the Sight but Merit Wins the Soul"
is a famous quote by Alexander Pope. It means that the outer personality of a person creates a favourable impression on others but this impression lasts only if the person has inner beauty, i.e., traits like truthfulness, honesty, sincerity, compassion.

Generally people judge others by their outer beauty. They forget that every shining metal is not gold. Very often people and things are not what they seem to be. Like shining glass pieces which dazzle and glitter like diamonds, the charm of many a men can be greatly misleading. There are numerous examples of men and women, who had outward charm but turned out to be fake. A book with a beautiful cover has no guarantee of its being interesting. Similarly, a beautifully packaged product launched in the market attracts the consumers but may not last in the market if it has no intrinsic value.
Physical beauty withers away with time but inner beauty remains even after a peron has gone from the world. People like Charlie Chaplin, Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Mother Teressa, did not have charming looks but it was their inner personality which made them not only popular worldwide but the ones whose memories have remain etched in the hearts of people.
Wish you a very Happy Independence day India.
