We are social beings. The society we live in has certain rules. Obedience to those rules is called discipline. A man without discipline is like a ship without a rudder. A rudderless ship is at the mercy of winds and waves. So a man who does not obey the rules of discipline, is sure to be guided by whims and caprices. Such a man cannot prosper in life.

The rules of discipline are to be obeyed at every stage of life. A child should obey his parents. If he fails to do so, he cannot expect to learn anything. When he grows older and enters the larger world, he should obey his elders. If he is employed anywhere, he should carry out the orders of the officers under whom he works. Man has many passions. If he is well-disciplined, he will not find it difficult to control his passions.

Discipline ought to be observed everywhere. We live in society. We must obey its rules; otherwise, it will be of no use to anybody. Even in games, discipline is necessary. The individual player should obey his captain and carry out his orders whether he likes these orders on not.

An army becomes a lawless mob if the soilders do not obey the rules of discipline. Such an army is of no use to the country at the cost of which ti is maintained. Similarly, a school or a college is not worth its name if the boys and girls do not observe its rules and regulations. Education loses its meaning to ill-disciplined students.

Even in nature ther is discipline. The sun, the moon and the stars obey certain laws of nature. Nature intended man to be as disciplined as it itself is.
